On February 5th, freshman and sophomore students presented their research projects for the in-house level of the prestigious National History Day competition.
At the exhibition, teachers and parents saw the end product of the students’ several months of extensive historical research. The students had the freedom to select any topic pertaining to this year’s theme of “Rights and Responsibilities in History.” They also decided whether to work independently or in a group and presented their findings in the medium of their choice (exhibit, documentary, website, performance, or research paper). The result was an authentic, thoughtfully crafted project by which students learned invaluable lessons in conducting historical research and communicating their findings.
After several rounds of assiduous judging, members of the history department selected the top projects in each category to advance to the regional level of the competition, which will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas College on March 29th. Bronxville students will compete against other high schoolers from towns across the Lower Hudson Valley area; the winning entries will advance to the state competition, and, from there, the highest level: the national competition.
