This fall, students and faculty members have been working nonstop on this year’s school play: Rumors. Inspired by Neil Simon’s play that first premiered in 1988, the fast-paced comedy ran for three consecutive nights—October 24th, 25th, and 26th—in the high school auditorium. The story takes place in the 1980s at the home of the Deputy Mayor of New York. When guests arrive for his tenth anniversary party, they find a strange scene: the host is injured, his wife is missing, and no one knows what happened. The mayor’s lawyer, Ken (played by Manny Rivera) and his wife, Chris (played by Claire Berkeley), try to cover things up, but confusion and misunderstandings pile up as the night goes on.
Mr. Cross, the acting and directing teacher here at Bronxville High School for eight years, directed the making of this play, with the help of assistant directors Katie Fezza, Liberty Wilson, Izzie Schmidt, Claire Berkeley, and Eamon Sullivan. The play ran for three consecutive nights in October. Everyone in the audience could really see the time and effort that went into the making of this production, whether from the back of the theater, where the light/sound crew were, to the stage itself, the whole cast contributed to the overall presentation. The cast did a great job bringing the characters to life, while the rest of the crew worked hard to make the production run smoothly. The set design, costumes, and lighting all helped make the 1980s setting feel real and added to the fun. Porter Rao, a sophomore who played the role of Officer Pudney, made a comment saying, “Everyone in the cast are such wonderful people, and I thoroughly enjoyed working and hanging out with them through the past few months”.
All of the actors and actresses executed their roles brilliantly, expressing their emotions with their actions and their use of dialogue. Everyone really saw how much the crew and cast members enjoyed themselves putting on a show for everyone and we appreciate their hard work.
Bronxville High School’s drama program is already preparing for the spring musical, Mamma Mia! Be sure to buy your tickets early to see one of the best performances of the year.Rumo
