I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Vaglica, Bronxville’s new Athletic Director, about his transition, career, and position, where he gives a lot of valuable insight about the inner-workings of Bronxville athletics and how there is a lot more that goes into each season and sport than people may think.
As someone very interested in education, Mr. Vaglica has always had an interest for a role in an educational environment. Working as a teacher, coach, athletic council adviser, and administrator, Mr. Vaglica has been working with students in many different ways throughout his career. He emphasizes his drive to work with students and his mission to instill the valuable guidance he has received onto them; he even affirms that through this process he learns from the students.
Mr. Vaglica talked about how one of his main roles is supporting coaches. As a former Varsity Baseball coach, he has a special perspective of the obstacles and difficulties that come with a role, allowing him to tailor his help accordingly. Praising the profound support and guidance that each coach at Bronxville offers, Mr. Vaglica points out how through his role, he can help them focus on the act of coaching their student-athletes. Sometimes, there are complications and logistical issues that arise, but Mr. Vaglica includes that creating a seamless experience in athletics is crucial in supporting the coaching staff. He points out how there are often complications with buses, facilities, hiring, and chaperones that the athletic department needs to work out. At any given point, the department is often dealing with two seasons: the current one and the approaching one. However, despite the constant action, he makes it a point to try his best and attend the student-athletes’ games, his favorite part of the role.
So far, Mr. Vaglica has praised his colleagues for a comfortable transition into this new position. He attests the kind and welcoming environment of the Athletic Department and looks forward to a great year!
